• How to Wash Linen

  Linen is highly absorbent, meaning it needs plenty of water to wash correctly. Overcrowding the washing machine is the fastest way to end up with stiff, deeply wrinkled fabric.

  • Water Temperature: Always wash linen in lukewarm or cold water. Hot water can cause the natural flax fibers to shrink and weaken over time.

  • The Cycle: Use the gentle or delicate cycle on your machine.

  • Detergent: Opt for a mild, liquid detergent. Avoid powdered detergents (which can get trapped in the weave) and absolutely never use bleach, which destroys the fibers.

  • Color Sorting: Always separate darks from lights, as linen is highly porous and will easily absorb dyes from other fabrics.

  How to Dry Linen

  How you dry your linen dictates how difficult it will be to iron later. The golden rule of linen care is to never over-dry it.

  • Tumble Dry (Carefully): You can tumble dry linen on a low-heat setting, but only for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove it while it is still slightly damp.

  • Air Dry: For the best results, lay the fabric flat on a drying rack or hang it on a padded hanger. Avoid wire hangers, which will leave sharp creases in the shoulders of garments.
